A Changing Environment

Work has started on the third instalment in the Architexture series. This third instalment will continue from Architexture II’s use of augmented reality acoustics to bring a unique and original aspect to performance – changing acoustics. Listen to Architexture II below, the first part in the series to use augmented acoustics!

Architexture III will be composed for a four-voice ensemble, and will be listened to at the chosen venue with open-backed headphones, enabling the audience to hear both the live performance from the singers and the virtual acoustic environment from the headphones, delivered in high quality binaural sound. As the piece progresses, the virtual acoustic environment heard over the headphones will change, blending smoothly between spaces of different sizes, materials and shapes. This allows the acoustics to truly be used as a compositional tool, and for each section of the piece to be tailored perfectly to fit the specific acoustic environment currently heard, as well as allowing each acoustic being chosen to fit the piece.

This is a very exciting concept which would never have been possible in the past, and will allow for an exciting and unique performance. Listen to Architexture II above, the first part in the series that used augmented acoustics!
